1. Gameplay testing

During the prototype phase of development, the testing should be primarily focused on gameplay aspects. The purpose is to discover which gameplay features are fun and which (if any) are not working out. During the prototype phase, the gameplay features will be tweaked and adjusted as needed to create a fun experience. This means that, at any time, your active matches may be changed or removed due to changes in the game system.

Examples of questions to explore:

  • There are 4 rounds in one match. Do we want more or less or is this just fine?
  • Are there enough turns to plant the bomb or should there be more time?
  • Is the game balanced or is there an unfair advantage for one of the teams?
  • What weapon profiles are underpowered/overpowered?
  • Should we allow more grenades of a certain type for some of the character profiles?
  • Is there any aspect that ruins the fun?

How to test

Testing the game is best done by playing a lot of matches. One single match usually does not say a lot about whether something is overpowered, as it may just be the case that you or your opponent is more experienced or got lucky. When playing matches, it is good practice to focus on trying different techniques and strategies. For example, try using different combinations of character profiles, weapon profiles and items and see if there is a combination that always overpowers your opponent. After the game, it is good practice to talk with your opponent and reflect on how the game turned out.

Providing feedback

After playing several games, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Any gameplay related topics are good to provide feedback on. You can provide feedback in the Discord #discussions channel.

Please do not provide feedback on graphics, sounds, animations, environments or user interface. These are only temporarily and will be replaced completely later in development.
